Puerto Vallarta: Day 1

The plane arrived a half hour early (they also left a half hour early, but that didn't stop people from applauding the early arrival). I had bought a VivaAerobus bus ticket.... to where I didn't know, but I got on the super first class bus with leg rests (not foot rests, leg rests). I was the only person on the bus! I had no idea where we were going, but I figured it would be somewhere within the city itself. I was so, so wrong. Of course all of the windows had curtains so I couldn't see where we were going or tell that we had arrived (a few minutes later). The driver nodded to me and I got off the bus, but not before asking him where we were (I gave him a map so he could point). Turns out, he didn't know where we were. Not helpful.

I exited the station hoping to see road sigs so that I could orientate myself on the map. No good. I asked the taxi driver coordinator. He consulted with another man and they finally agreed that we were so far north we weren't on the map. I gave up at that point and decided to take a taxi. One hundred pesos and about 30 minutes later, I was in front of the hostel. By the way, the taxi passed by the airport on the way to the hostel. Apparently, I had ended up NORTH of the airport!

This evening, I took a walk and finally made it to the beach. Although that had been the original goal, it took me forever because I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up on a dirt road with a little dog following me. On the down side, my feet already hurt. On the bright side, I saw the real Mexico, the Mexico where a kid had a birthday party with balloons and a pinata, and the Mexico where I saw a very pregnant woman arriving at her baby shower.
I am completely exhausted and completely drained. I've had a really hard month and the horrible events of the past couple of days haven't helped anything. I may just shower and go to bed.

Goodnight

Puerto Vallarta Here I Come!

In a couple of days I'm going on a last-minute 12-day trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I haven't booked my hostels yet - I haven't even decided exactly which cities I want to visit yet. And I didn't even buy a guidebook! I always buy a guidebook or 2 or 3. And I haven't bothered packing yet. So yeah, I'm doing things a little differently this time.

Something else that is new is my brand new baby computer. I recently bought a pink, 8.9" Acer Aspire One that I am planning on taking with me to Mexico. As long as I have access to wi-fi, I should be able to post photos to my sites.

As a side note, I am planning on writing an online Puerto Vallarta travel guide while I'm gone. I did this for the Yucatan trip Ray and I went on in January, but did not finish because of personal reasons. The site address is http://elainainmexico.googlepages.com. There's not much to it yet, but hopefully everything will be up and running by Sunday.

I have a lot to do before Sunday. I've been working hours every day on teaching applications (yes, I am applying to be a high school English teacher). I'm trying to finish up my applications before I leave for Puerto Vallarta. Anyway, gotta go. See you in Mexico!
