We are in a collectivo heading towards Cusco. As we ride, I'm watching and observing. There is a Japanese couple sitting next to me on the car seat; they appear to be snoozing. Alli is in the front seat of the Toyota Yaris; she's looking out the window.
As we ride, I see scores of partially constructed buildings. In many, the top floor is under construction while the bottom floor is being used. We have passed dozens of lonely dogs; they don't even bother to move as the car passes them. There are all manner of worn-looking animals tied up on the side of the road.
Despite hearing that the roads are in terrible condition, the road between Ollantaytambo and Cusco is paved and smooth. Initially, I thought Peruvian men and women dressed in traditional clothes to earn a few soles from photo-hungry tourists. However, I've noticed a number of women traditionally dressed while in this collectivo. These women, sitting on the side of the road with goods for sale or standing with their animals, are wearing less vibrant colors than their Ollantaytambo counterparts.
I think I just saw the biggest pork rind in existence at a roadside stand. It was so big that it was actually housed in a glass case - a cube I would estimate to measure about a foot and a half in each dimension.
We will soon arrive in Cusco.
